About

Isaac Cavallaro is a Brisbane based freelance drummer, producer and tutor with over a decades experience in the music industry. After graduating his school studies with the valedictorian awards for classroom music, music extension (2007) and the school cultural award (2006, 2007) , Isaac continued his studies at the Queensland Conservatorium majoring in advanced performance for jazz drums. During his time there, Isaac received the Sid SJ Bromley Jazz Award for Outstanding Student (2015) and Griffith awards for Academic Excellence (2013, 2014, 2015).

His passion for education has seen Isaac run his own private teaching business across Brisbane and work at Ferny Grove State High School as a contracted instrumental teacher for percussion and guitar ensembles. Here Isaac would arrange material specific to players skills and interest in order to bring out the best in each individual’s performance.

Isaac also runs and directs his self titled solo electronic project where he fuses his composition and drumming abilities to create silky pop melodies and experimental electronic textures. The success of his debut single “Stolen Moments” and follow up singles “My Darling” and “I Will Not Let You Down” has seen Isaac receive warm reviews and airtime from various presenters on Australia’s radio station Triple J.

It’s like the sun breaking through rainclouds. To me this song has that same uplifting, euphoric feeling” – Dom Alessio, Triple J on “Stolen Moments”.

“Lush layered production that leaves me feeling all warm.” – Nat Tencic, Triple J on “My Darling”.

“Sometimes you need to inject a little sunshine into your life and this song can help you do that”. – Dom Alessio, Triple J on “I Will Not Let You Down”.

Isaac also likes to use his composition and production skills to work with various businesses designing their audio marketing content for appropriate ad campaigns and TV program jingles. His most recent being his contract with the Australian travel agency “Escape Travel”. This saw Isaac’s music being played daily during the International tennis tournament the “Australian Open”, reaching nearly three million viewers.

Outside of his composition and production work, Isaac can be found playing drums for a number of artists in the electronic pop world, traditional jazz, free improvised music, alternative music, world music and more. Some of these artist include:

  • The Kite String Tangle (Australia) – Electronic, Indie
  • Dustin Tebbutt (Australia) – Indie, Folk
  • Steve Newcomb (Australia) – Improvised, Electronic
  • Yitzak Yedid (Israel) – Improvised, Experimental
  • Matt Baker (New York) – Improvised, Jazz
  • Susanna O’Leary (Australia) – World Music, Alternative
  • The Simon Drew Quartet (Australia) – Traditional Jazz

Isaac’s performance with “The Kite String Tangle” and “Dustin Tebbutt” in their 2015 sold out “Illuminate” tour took him across Australia, as well as performing at various Australian music festivals. This work involved playing to click tracks live and the use of live drum samples/triggers programmed by Isaac, using Ableton software and Roland drum triggers.

In contrast, his work with “The Simon Drew Quartet” performing on Royal Caribbean’s “The Allure of the Seas” for six months came from a more traditional jazz approach, where he was to play a supportive role with a wide dynamic range. This included playing with both amplified and acoustic instruments.

Currently Isaac is playing drums in The Orchestra/Showband on Royal Caribbean’s “The Adventure of the Seas” which involves performing with the singers and dancers in three different production shows, sight reading charts for touring headline artists on board and a number of other roles around the ship.

With an already strong relationship with Royal Caribbean, Isaac’s future plans are to get involved with Royal Caribbean’s audio marketing and produce music for the companies ad campaigns whilst continuing to keep his eyes peeled for his next musical adventure.
